ONYX / MT5 OPERATIONS
No trades for days. Is the EA still working?
A selective strategy can stay flat. A stopped signal evaluation can look the same in trade history. Follow the path from a fresh quote to the broker response before changing trading parameters.
Follow the diagnostic path01 / DIAGNOSTIC PATH
Find the last step that completed.
This is a general MT5 diagnostic model, not a live ONYX status screen or an ONYX monitoring feature.
- 01
Terminal
Confirm the intended account and EA are running.
- 02
Symbol
Check the latest quote for the exact broker symbol.
- 03
Evaluation
Look for a completed signal check and its reason.
- 04
Decision
Was there no setup, a filter, or an order attempt?
- 05
Broker
Inspect acceptance, rejection, fill or cancellation.
A completed “no setup” check may be normal. A missing evaluation, stale feed or rejected order needs a different investigation.
02 / PLATFORM FIRST
A connected terminal is only one clue.
Confirm the account, chart, symbol and Expert Advisor. On MetaTrader virtual hosting, read the virtual platform’s Journal and Experts logs as well as the local terminal. Record the last quote, EA message, trade error and broker-server time together.
Gold has market closures and broker-specific sessions. Check the latest tick time for the specific symbol before treating inactivity as a fault. A weekend without XAUUSD ticks is not by itself evidence that an EA stopped.
MT5 help: virtual platform logs03 / SIGNAL OR EXECUTION
Trade count cannot diagnose the cause.
If the EA reports diagnostic states, find the last completed signal evaluation. Separate “no valid setup” from unavailable data, a spread limit, an unfinished check and a rejected order. A running timer alone does not show that entry logic completed.
For an EA you develop, a useful health record includes the symbol, completion time, outcome code and open-position identifiers. An independent monitor must notice when that record stops updating: a stopped EA cannot reliably send its own warning. This is a design example, not a feature claim about ONYX.
For a closed-source EA, inspect Experts and Journal logs and ask its developer what a normal quiet period looks like. Do not attach a second trading copy just to check the first: duplicate copies can place duplicate orders.
04 / SAFE CHECK
Test alerts away from live trading.
On a demo or isolated setup, reproduce a quiet period, a terminal restart and missing data. Verify that the monitor distinguishes expected inactivity from a stale evaluation and alerts without opening trades.
Strategy Tester can exercise trading logic, but MT5 does not execute SendNotification or external network calls there. Test the notification path separately in a non-trading environment.
05 / KEEP EVALUATING
Keep the diagnosis tied to the actual product.
If you are evaluating an EA, record its version, symbol, broker conditions and relevant log messages. The Market demo runs in Strategy Tester, not on a live chart. Compare the requirements of each of the four published ONYX products before choosing one.
Automated trading can result in loss. A diagnostic or alert cannot guarantee a future trade, prevent an execution error or protect an account from market risk.
